How long is a Europa SIM-Card valid?

The SIM-Card is valid for 12 months.
Every time you recharge your airtime credit, the validity of your SIM-Card is extended by another 12 months.
If your airtime credit is not recharged at least once every 12 months, the SIM-Card expires.
The minimum recharge is 5 €

 

How can I recharge my airtime credit?

You can use the airtime recharge service.
It works with Paypal, credit card and bank transfer

 

How can I check my credit?

Please call the 404 (it's free).
The call will be aborted and you will receive a flash SMS showing your credit and the last billing.
Otherwise please send an empty SMS to the 404 (if you use an UMTS Stick or MiFi router)

 

Will the daily tariff be charged daily or only on days I really connect to the internet?

Only on days I really go online.
If no connection is established on one day, the tariff will not be charged.

 

Will the data that has not been used by the end of a day (23:59 Central European TIME) transferred to the successive day?

No: The data that has not been used expires and will not be transferred to the successive day

 

How do I pay for the data-option?

The fee for the selected data option will be deducted from your airtime credit.
You pay only when you go online and since your credit is prepaid, there is no risk of extremely high bills that you could have with a contract.

 

What kind of UMTS Modem or MiFi is supported?

All UMTS Modems and MiFi with no SIM lock that operate in the 900/1800 MHz frequency.
CDMA is not supported.

 

What kind of hardware/software do I need to establish an UMTS-GPRS connection?

Basically, you can use every UMTS handset or modem, as long as they are not SIM-locked.
Please test your hardware prior to your departure.
If you need technical support, please send an email to your hardware provider with following information: operating system, modem or handset brand and model, your provider, your connection software and, if available, a screenshot of the error message.

 

Does your SIM work with my Smartphone/UMTS Stick/router?

The SIM works with all devices.
The only precondition is that the device is SIM-lock free.

 

How can I verify if my UMTS Modem (Surfstick) or mobile has got a SIM-Lock?

Please try another SIM card (provider) first.
Should you get an error message or the SIM card won’t be recognised, this means that your device has got a SIM-Lock.
In this case, please get back to your provider to clarify the situation.

 

How can I set the APN on my Smartphone, UMTS Stick or MIFI?


Please use your preferred search engine by typing ‘Set APN + “name of your device” to get detailed instructions.

 

What happens if I cross several EU countries within the same day?

The daily tariff is deducted just once per day. The only exception is Italy, where the daily tariff will be charged additionally

 

How can I reduce my data consumption in order to not reach the daily MB threshold?

Basically you should avoid video streaming and deactivate the operating system automatic update.
Besides that, you can also set the threshold on most connection softwares.
You will also receive automatically an SMS when you are close to reach the daily limit and another one when you reach it.

 

Is there a free App/Software that I can use to check my daily data consumption and set a threshold to avoid overspending?

How can I register my SIM card on Vodafone.it?

The registration is not mandatory but just an option for you

 

Where do I find the PIN for my SIM?

On the carrier card you will find both PIN and PUK. The latter is needed to unblock your SIM in case you have forgotten your PIN.
Keep your card securely stored and write down your PIN and PUK in a safe place.
If you should loose your PIN, please call the +39 349 2000 190 to get your PUK to unlock your SIM-Card.

Is there something I must consider when I use tethering on my smartphone (Iphone if your IOS version allows it)?

Many smartphones (IPhone included) set automatically 2 different APNs: one to go online with the smartphone display and the other for tethering.
Please check before going online that the correct APN is set and that both APNs are identical.
If you want to use the APN mobile.vodafone.it, both APNs must be set to mobile.vodafone.it.
If you don't set the APNs properly, you will pay twice when you use tethering, because you will use 2 different data packages in the same day

 

How do I configure correctly the APN on a smartphone or a router to avoid unnecessary charges, since those devices go immediately online as soon as I insert the SIM-Card?

Please proceed in 4 steps:
1) deactivate the 3G connection
2) insert the SIM-Card
3) set the APN
4) activate the 3G connection when needed or at destination.
In case you use a router, just edit the APN without inserting the SIM-Card.
Please insert the SIM-Card only when you arrive at destination

 

I reached the mothly 60 € data threshold and the connection is not working anymore. How can I release the block?

Please call the Vodafone.it hotline and wait until you have an employee who is able to communicate in English. – Give him your name and phone number and ask to activate Smart Passport. The hotline-number is: 0039-349 2000 190

 

Can I call mobile numbers in Europe with the 25 minutes outgoing calls from SMART PASSPORT?

Yes, except Italy where you will pay the standard price

 

What happens if I use the APN mobile.vodafone.it in Italy?

You will pay 4 Euro per day, including 500 MB. After 500 MB, you pay 2 € every 100 MB, billed in 100 Kb units

 

What happens if I use the APN web.omnitel.it outside Italy?

You will pay the price per MB instead of 3 Euro per day (with APN mobile.vodafone.it) in Europe. Please be careful, because the APN might be switched automatically by your smartphone when you activate tethering.
To be sure that the correct APN is set, please use a MiFi or an UMTS Stick where you can configure the APN manually.
